Summary
On June 12, 2024, the B.C. government finalized regulations and announced changes that extend workers’ compensation coverage from WorkSafeBC to app-based ride-hail and delivery services workers. Workers are eligible for workers’ compensation benefits, including wage loss and vocational rehabilitation, for work-related injuries.
The legislation came into effect on September 3, 2024.
Online platform operators will be responsible for:
- Registering for coverage with WorkSafeBC and paying premiums
- Meeting health and safety requirements to keep workers safe
- Reporting injuries and diseases
- Investigating significant incidents
