Summary
Effective January 1, 2021, the Workers Compensation Amendment Act, 2020 (Bill 23) changed how WorkSafeBC determines at what age a worker “would retire.” Following this amendment to the Workers Compensation Act, WorkSafeBC’s policies and practices were updated.
While monitoring the implementation of these changes, we identified issues with the interpretation of “would retire,” leading to further policy changes that came into effect January 1, 2024. With those changes having been in effect now for more than a year, we are currently seeking feedback on the effectiveness of the 2024 policy changes and to review whether further changes are necessary.
How you can share your feedback
To learn more about these policy changes and the issues identified review the discussion paper.
Provide your feedback on the effectiveness of 2024 policy changes and let WorkSafeBC know if you think further changes are necessary by going to the consultation page. You can provide feedback online, by email, or by mail before 4:30 p.m. on Friday, June 6, 2025.
How your contributions make a difference
