Summary
On November 1, 2023, the Ministry of Labour requested an amendment to the OHS Regulation to require the provision of flush toilets on construction sites with 25 or more workers.
From December 2023 to January 2024, we asked for feedback on the following proposed amendments:
- Plumbed washroom facilities must be provided where practicable at construction sites where at least 25 workers are regularly present
- Definitions for “plumbed washroom facility” (a flush toilet connected to a sanitary sewer system) and “non-plumbed washroom facility” (a flush toilet with a holding tank) were added to the OHS Regulation
- Employers must maintain records of maintenance, cleaning, and sanitizing of facilities
Based on public feedback received at the January 2024 public hearing and direction from our Board of Directors, the draft regulation is being revised and will be available for stakeholder feedback this summer.
This page will be updated at each stage.
How your contributions make a difference
All feedback is shared with our Board of Directors and considered in shaping our regulatory approach to washroom facilities on construction sites. The updated regulation will have a direct impact on B.C. workplaces, helping to address the evolving needs of workers and employers to create a safer work environment for all.
