Summary

WorkSafeBC is establishing an External Accessibility Advisory Committee to help improve accessibility across our programs, services, and interactions with workers, employers, and service providers.

The committee will include 15 members from across British Columbia who reflect a broad range of lived experiences, perspectives, and backgrounds. This group will bring external perspectives on accessibility barriers experienced by workers, employers, and service providers.

We’re seeking applicants from the following groups:

• Workers — workers who have interacted with any claims system, and individuals representing worker advocacy groups (labour organizations, worker advisors, and others)
• Employers — representatives of small, medium, or large employers
• Service providers — individuals representing organizations that support injured workers or serve people with disabilities
• Equity- and identity-based communities — including members of the 2SLGBTQIIA+ community, Indigenous Peoples, people of colour or racialized persons, immigrants/newcomers/refugees, and gender minorities (transgender and non-binary individuals)

Meetings will be held virtually, and accessibility support will be available.

Applicants selected as committee members can choose what information they wish to share, and any personal information provided will be treated confidentially throughout the application process.

Committee members may qualify for an honorarium. If you are participating as an individual and attending on your own time, you’ll receive a $150 honorarium per meeting to recognize the time and effort involved in sharing your lived experience.

If you’re representing an employer and participating during work time, the honorarium does not apply.

As part of the application, applicants will be invited to voluntarily and confidentially self-identify in areas that help ensure the committee reflects the diversity of the communities WorkSafeBC serves.

Your lived experience, perspectives, and expertise are valued. As a member of the External Accessibility Advisory Committee, you will:

• Identify and remove barriers that affect people accessing our programs and services
• Contribute to preventing new accessibility barriers from emerging
• Help to inform WorkSafeBC's Accessibility Plan by bringing forward the experiences of workers, employers, and service providers in the province
• Support WorkSafeBC in meeting its responsibilities under the Accessible British Columbia Act
